Great Lakes Boxer Rescue was formalized on September 15, 2014. They partner with several other rescues and work diligently to save as many dogs as they can, even if it means helping transport dogs to partner rescues. Initially GLBR only serviced Michigan, but they have since expanded and now have volunteers and adopters all throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

In late 2024, another Michigan based rescue, Boxer Haven, merged with GLBR. They have worked to integrate the new volunteers and foster homes into their group, making them even stronger. GLBR is run on the premise of teamwork!
