Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida's mission is saving, protecting, and rehoming golden retrievers, retriever breeds, and blends with golden hearts who have lost their home and families.
"Our mission is driven by the compassion and support of our community, ensuring each dog finds a loving forever home."
GRRMF got their start in 1991 after Sandy Guy and Sarah Davis embarked on a mission to raise funds for a young Golden Retriever named Charlie who needed double hip surgery. They raised more than enough to cover Charlie’s medical expenses, inspiring them to help other Golden Retrievers in need. By 1996, they had rescued over 300 goldens, but the demand for help continued to grow. Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida, Inc. officially began operations as a nonprofit in 1997.
In 1998, the number of needy goldens surged, but GRRMF was ready to help. Their new nonprofit status enabled tax-deductible donations, boosting support. They launched their first website and received a grant from the Golden Retriever Club of America for infrastructure and marketing. Their activity skyrocketed, and they welcomed many new volunteers to meet the growing needs of homeless Golden Retrievers. They also started a print newsletter to keep our supporters informed.
Over the years there have been many changes, and GRRMF learned as they grew. They focused on improving their operations and procedures to work efficiently across volunteer teams, became better organized, embraced technology to further the future of Golden Retriever rescue and added a network of 200 volunteers spread across much of the state of Florida. “We know how fortunate we are to have such committed volunteers working with us. We could not accomplish what we do without them, and they help to make our organization great.”
To date, Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida has rescued over 4,300 Golden Retrievers.
